Bida Nai Phi Phi Islands
Bida Nai & Koh Phi Phi Islands National Marine Park began life as a coral formation 130 million years ago. It grew to be hundreds of meters thick before dying The calcium carbonate deposit which remained eventually turned into limestone which was pushed up from the sea floor due to volcanic activity around 75 million years ago. Weather & ocean currents then slowly shaped the limestone all over Phang Nga Bay into beautiful limestone karsts like Bida Nai.
Bida Nai Koh Phi Phi
Bida Nai situated to the south of Phi Phi offers Phuket scuba divers the opportunity to experience both wall diving & reef diving in Thailand. The walls on the north facing part of Bida Nai are festooned with soft corals and gorgonian sea fans where ornate ghost pipefish & seahorses can often be found. The area to the south of Bida Nai called Fantasy Reef is peppered with large boulder formations & hard corals. Leopard sharks sometimes nap in the sandy areas, & a whale shark occasionally casts a dark shadow as it passes by overhead.
